A couple days ago, I wrote a post about being sad that my nine-month-old daughter is no longer interested in breastfeeding. I wrote it in the hopes that it would help me stop being sad. Well, guess what? It didn’t. Yeah, I still have the sads over this.
Not too long ago, my first baby went off to college. I was sad then too. Really sad. Like, barely-get-out-of-bed-and-make-it-to-work-Monday-through-Friday-and-stay-in-bed-and-cry-all-weekend sad. I started a blog about the bright side of being an empty nester to cheer myself up. It soon turned dark, because I was feeling, well, dark, so I abandoned it.
Because the ‘find the good in it’ tactic was such a rousing success, I’m going to try it again. I am going to make a list of ten bright sides to not breastfeeding my daughter anymore. Yes, that is what I am going to do. Here we go. Aaaannnnnd GO!
1. I can have more than one glass of wine. What does it say about me that this is the first thing I could think of? Perhaps it says I need a vacation or a pedicure or something.
2. I can take certain medications that I have missed very much again. Nothing glamorous, sweetie, darling, just Sudafed and Excedrin Migraine.
3. I can wear pretty bras again. Nursing bras in size 38H (DDDDD) are not particularly feminine or sexy.
4. If I have to be away from my daughter for longer than an hour or two (which I hate doing, so I don’t even know why this gets to be an item on the list), I can do so without feeling like my boobs are going to explode.
5. Watching my daughter feed herself Gerber Puffs, while admittedly not as tender as watching her nurse, is quite adorable.
6. Maybe my boobs will now shrink to a bra size sold in stores?
Okay, I am grasping at straws now, people. Help me out.
